چکیده

Imaging in spinal dural arteriovenous fistula 2 ARC Publishing Background Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is a rare condition, but accounts for great disability in those affected. SDAVF are more common in men and typically present in the fifth and sixth decades of life [1]. The patients usually present with lower extremity spastic weakness, sensory symptoms, bowel/bladder disturbances and back pain [1, 2]. Despite improvements in spinal imaging, SDAVF diagnosis is often difficult or masked by more common entities. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) typically shows dilated perimedullary veins, spinal cord swelling, and central high signal intensities on T2-weighted images [3], but SDAVF presenting without spinal cord signal abnormalities have also been described [4].

Posterior spinal cord herniation into an extradural thoracic arachnoid cyst: surgical treatment. Case report and review of the literature.

The authors describe the case of a 2-year-old boy who experienced progressive spastic paraparesis for several months. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an extensive extradural arachnoid cyst at the T3-L1 levels and posterior spinal cord herniation at T3-4. Surgical release of the neck of the hernia and total resection of the arachnoid cyst were performed. The patient had good clinical recover...

[Brain and spinal cord magnetic resonance imaging in spastic paraparesis associated to human T-lymphotropic virus].

BACKGROUND The spastic paraparesis associated to HTLV-1 causes degenerative pyramidal tract lesions of the spinal cord and affects cortical-nuclear connections in the brain. AIM To report the findings of magnetic resonance imaging in patients with spastic paraparesis. MATERIAL AND METHODS A magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and spinal cord was performed in 30 patients (24 females), me...

Recurrent symptomatic vertebral hemangioma during two consecutive pregnancies: Case report and review of the literature

BACKGROUND Pregnancy-related changes can exacerbate the symptoms/signs of vertebral hemangiomas. Here, we report a patient who experienced symptomatic vertebral hemangiomas resulting in cord compression during two consecutive pregnancies. CASE DESCRIPTION A 28-year-old female 34 weeks pregnant, presented with a progressive spastic paraparesis. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) demonstrated an ...

Spinal cord anteroposterior atrophy in HAM/TSP: Magnetic resonance imaging and neuropathological analyses

To evaluate the spinal cord atrophy that occurs in HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP), we conducted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and pathological analyses. In the MRI study, 15 patients with HAM/TSP and 20 age-matched normal control subjects were enrolled. Anteroposterior and transverse distances and cross-sectional areas were measured and calculated at the ...

Primary spinal cord desmoplastic astrocytoma in an adolescent: a rare tumour at rare site and rare age.

We report a case of a non-infantile primary intramedullary spinal cord desmoplastic astrocytoma in an 18-year-old girl who presented with spastic paraparesis. The patient had been unable to run for 1 year. Magnetic resonance imaging of her spine showed an intramedullary solid and cystic heterogeneously enhancing lesion located at T7-T8 level. Partial excision was performed. Histology revealed a...
